CAMPGROUNDS IN HIGH COUNTRY VIRGINIA’S APPALACHIAN MOUNTAINS

Our Story

Meet Pete & Smokey
Owner and operator of High Country Campground Pete Bartel and his old pal Smokey welcome you!
As a native Charlotte N. Carolinian from Myers Park High, an old school motorcycle enthusiast and grill-master of Smokes BBQ and Catering, Pete decided to purchase this breathtaking property in 2020 to share his love for the beauty of the Virginia Mountains.
Please feel free to come explore the excitement of the 3600 ft elevation of White Top Mountain, home of Big Foot National Forest and horse trails traveled by Eleanor Roosevelt and Civil Wartime hero’s alike.
Whether it’s the history of the property as an old Speakeasy called “The Eagles Nest” and all the tales of the land or the incredible nature of the Highlands and Appalachians themselves, Pete and Smokey would love to share with you the knowledge and experiences of such a place so dear to the heart.
